About the Opportunity

The Global R&D Strategy Manager role will be responsible for supporting Global Strategic Initiatives and Corporate Development within Driscoll’s Global Research & Development (R&D). The individual in this position supports discrete strategic initiatives within R&D and may support significant M&A transactions that Driscoll’s undertakes. The individual may also help manage the strategic planning process in partnership with the Senior Manager of Global R&D Strategy. This position will have significant visibility to the senior leadership of Driscoll’s Global R&D, including the Senior Vice President of Global R&D, the Vice President of Global Breeding, and other high-level senior leaders within Driscoll’s. This is a role that is has varied names across a variety of businesses: including: Strategy, Strategic Finance, Corporate Development, Business Development, Business Finance, Management Consulting, etc. In practice, the role is a mix of financial analysis, quantitative analysis, executive communication, research, project management, journalism, and most importantly: strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

•   Partners with functional business groups to drive individual strategic initiatives that are aligned to Driscoll’s Strategy House.
•   Provides ongoing strategic thought partnership to Driscoll’s leadership, including Director and VP-level leaders within Global R&D. 
•   Supports functional strategies and priorities for the Global R&D Function. 
•   Supports Corporate Development related projects such as expansion in new geographies or new products and evaluating M&A opportunities.
•   Executes specific initiatives to improve Driscoll’s understanding of competitive intelligence, consumer trends and macro / sociopolitical impacts to the business. 
•   Interprets external trends into meaningful short- and long-term goals for Driscoll’s and its Global R&D Business Unit.
•   Contributes to the Business Unit’s people priorities and objectives regarding: people leader effectiveness, engaged employees, and enabling others to perform. 
•   Domestic and international travel required up to 10%. 
•   Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large. 

 

Candidate Profile

•   An excellent academic foundation that includes a Bachelor’s in a relevant field(business, finance, economics, preferred) with 5+ years of work experience.
•   Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills.
•   Experience in storyboard development (e.g., ThinkCell experience).
•   Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environment.
•   Willingness and ability to work through ambiguity with alacrity.
•   Willingness and ability to “wear many hats”, be a “jack of all trades”, and adapt to ensure success.

Preferred Qualifications & Leadership Competencies
    
•   Management consulting experience (or similar strategy experience).
•   Experience with agriculture and/or genetics preferred.
•   Excellent written & oral communication skills.
•   Experience with Executive Communication.
•   Ability to lead cross-functional projects, including people management & timelines.
•   A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
•   Strategic Mindset: Looks toward the future and designs a way to get there.
•   Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese language skills are a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted.  The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors. 

Salary Range estimated for the Global R&D Strategy Manager: $90,052.20/year to $134,628.00/year.
