Carmen Perez
Las Adoberas, BerryMex, Jocotepec, Central Mexico
“I am on my ranch six days a week, each and every week. To me, life is about family and farming. Every detail is important, and I watch over my plants closely. I am taking constant care of my berry plants.”
For Carmen Perez, growing berries is a family affair: her four brothers and five sisters are all involved in farming. For ten years, Carmen grew berries with her sisters and Driscoll’s partner, BerryMex, before branching out on her own. Today, she tends 59 acres of conventionally grown raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries, commuting to her ranch everyday from her home in Guadalajara. Devoted to her fields, Carmen believes that healthy soil and good nutrition are essential to growing berries successfully, and her hard work shows in the berries she grows. Carmen and her husband of 31 years, Juan Rico Manuel Bernal, have four children. In her free time, she enjoys reading and watching movies.
