Driscoll’s Celebrates Strawberry Shortcake with a Look Back at Recipes Through the Ages
June 5, 2014
WATSONVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To mark National Strawberry Shortcake Day on June 14th, Driscoll’s is sharing the history of Strawberry Shortcake and the evolution of this very classic dessert beginning with the 1500’s and ending with two new exclusive strawberry shortcake recipes, created by award winning cookbook author Dorie Greenspan.
“Strawberry Shortcake is very much a part of Driscoll’s heritage. We’ve gone back through various culinary archives as well as the company history and it’s very clear that Driscoll’s has been the strawberry on America’s shortcakes for more than 100 years,” says Frances Dillard, Director of Marketing, Driscoll’s. The historical, informative and fun shortcake timeline is available here.
This expanded special section celebrating Strawberry Shortcake is filled with fun facts including ‘Strawberry Shortcake Parties’ that started in the 1850’s to herald the start of summer, the influence of French chefs in the early 1900’s (hint – whipped cream has its ooh la la moment and meets biscuits) and how time strapped housewives made shortcakes in the 1950s. In all, Driscoll’s presents more than 15 mouthwatering recipes ranging from quick and simple to gluten free. The most exciting recipes in this section are by Dorie Greenspan. “We knew we wanted to work with Dorie from the minute we met her,” says Dillard. She’s a modern day baker with an exceptional palate and has a gift for taking Americans on an epicurean journey through her recipes and writing.
Dories’ recipes for Double Strawberry & Rose Shortcakes and Strawberry Mousse Cake can be found on www.driscolls.com. “Working with Driscoll’s has been incredibly satisfying and sharing these recipes is truly a pleasure. Every baker loves to share and delight others whether they are sharing muffins, bread or in this case Strawberry Shortcake,” says Greenspan.
Driscoll’s will celebrate Strawberry Shortcake throughout the month of June. For more information visit www.driscolls.com or follow @driscollsberry on Twitter and Instagram.
