A whiskey smash is a time-honored blend of whiskey, citrus, and fruit. Our version brings fresh and juicy berries to the mix… and you get to choose your favorite! Feel free to substitute the strawberries and blueberries for raspberries and blackberries. Or get crazy and use all four-- it’s your whiskey smash! The recipe makes enough berry simple syrup to invite a few friends.

Ingredients
Berry simple syrup
1/2 cup Driscoll’s Strawberries
1/2 cup Driscoll’s Blueberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Cocktail
5 – 6 mint leaves
6 Driscoll’s Blueberries
1 Driscoll’s Strawberry
1 – 2 ounces (2 – 4 tablespoons) whiskey
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) berry simple syrup
1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) lemon juice
Ice
Powdered sugar (optional)

PLACE 1/2 cup strawberries into a small saucepan.

ADD 1/2 cup blueberries.

ADD 1/2 cup sugar.

ADD 1/2 cup water.

BRING mixture to a boil over high heat.

REDUCE temperature to low.

MASH with a potato masher or large spoon.

SIMMER 10 minutes.

STRAIN mixture through a fine mesh strainer to separate syrup. (Save cooked berries to serve over yogurt or spread on buttered toast.)

ALLOW berry simple syrup to cool to room temperature.

FILL a cocktail tumbler with ice and SET ASIDE.

PLACE 5 – 6 mint leaves into a cocktail shaker.

ADD 6 blueberries.

ADD 1 strawberry.

MASH with a muddler or the back of a large spoon until fragrant with mint.

ADD 1 – 2 ounces (2 – 4 tablespoons) whiskey.

ADD 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) berry simple syrup.

ADD 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) lemon juice.

FILL cocktail shaker to top with ice.

COVER tightly and SHAKE until sides are frosted.

STRAIN cocktail into prepared tumbler.

GARNISH with additional berries, mint leaves, and powdered sugar if desired.
